On his blog the other day, he described the reaction to Coulter's "faggot" remark (which was the last joke of her routine and obviously the planned money shot). According to Sullivan, who by the way is openly gay and conservative, the crowd was made up of mostly young activists who were cheering after she uttered the slur. Sullivan said that while all the Republican presidential candidates were met w/ varying levels of polite enthusiasm, it was Coulter who was greeted as a rock star. He said that it was grim to see so many young people respond in this way. He thinks the future of the conservative movement is this type of crypto-fascism, and he is very disheartened by it.

The description of young, pumped up "activists" cheering a speaker who calls a political opponent a "faggot" sounds like something from the Beer Hall Putsch. The underlying threat of barely repressed violence is disturbing.

Last year at the same conference, Coulter mocked Muslims as "ragheads". Nevertheless, she was invited back again as keynote speaker. Perhaps we can look forward to Coulter's appearance next year when she will use the "n" word to describe Barack Obama or some other designated "unworthy".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37877540.post-74633867921984510342007-03-04T09:28:00.000-05:002007-03-04T09:28:00.000-05:00Hi King --Here's the deal with me on the use of th...Hi King --

Here's the deal with me on the use of the "faggot" word. She was not trying to question or disagree with a policy, a position, a contention, a political stand, an intelluctual underpinning or anything else involving the John Edwards campaign. She used a pejorative. I just don't see how the use of such lanquage qualifies as rational, instructional political discourse -- no matter who says it. When somebody uses slurs against an opponent, they show they are intelluctually bankrupt. All we know about her view on Edwards -- he's a faggot. What about his health care plan? Good or bad? King, what she did was ad hominem -- she appealed to prejudices rather than to reason, she attacked her opponent rather than any issue. I really believe that that conservatism and social conservatism are important and serious political philosophies, and they should be treated and represented as such. Could you imagine Jefferson debating Adams over federalism and calling him a faggot because they held different positions on a political issue?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12712163977315292252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37877540.post-42057267074179207002007-03-04T07:24:00.000-05:002007-03-04T07:24:00.000-05:00What is wrong with what she said? Why is it OK for ...What is wrong with what she said?

Why is it OK for liberals, to freely speak as they please?

Why do you guys cry foul when anyone speaks ill about fags?

I see no calls for HBO to remove Bill Maher over his Cheney remarks. Coulter is famously vacuous and has turned herself into a female version of Michael Richards. And it is simply stunning that nobody in the audience threw a tomato at her in objection. Apparently, the people in the crowd were deaf or too ignorant to know an offensive word when it is uttered before them.

As for the MSM, I'm at a loss and cannot explain the failure to report about this. Perhaps they are in shock. Perhaps they are out of it. Perhaps they are slow. But the newspaper industry needs to banish Coulter immediately as a columnist. She is to journalism what swampwater is to champagne.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12712163977315292252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37877540.post-81652871678184719902007-03-03T16:45:00.000-05:002007-03-03T16:45:00.000-05:00That really is just nuts of her.
