Newt's On The Warpath: But Would He Attack Pakistan?

CINCINNATI (TDB) -- Newt Gingrich has not backed away from a news story that says he told a group of 300 college conservatives last week that the United States is losing the War on Terror because of Bush administration incompetence.

Today, the former House Speaker has the entire 'phony war' story posted on his Website, including his pointed criticism of the GOP for its failures to convince or demonstrate to the American electorate that it had a clue about how to govern the nation during the Bush years.

"We were in charge for six years. I don't think you can look and say that was a great success."

Gingrich, who is a potential GOP presidential candidate, also said:

"We've been engaged in a phony war. The only people who have been taking this seriously are the combat miliarty."

He spoke to the National Conservative Student Conference, a conclave sponsored by the Young America's Foundation in Herndon, Va. Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Bob Deans, who covered Gingrich's appearance, noted the group was founded in the 1960s to support the Vietnam War.
