CINCINNATI (TDB) -- The first lady of Ohio
says people in the Buckeye State don't recognize her husband when he's out shopping in public. Gov. Ted Strickland has been mistaken for a department store clerk, or a guy who sells shoes for a living. At least Frances Strickland didn't say people mistook him for someone who peddles snake oil. Or Richard "Would You Buy a Used Car From This Man?" Nixon.
This phenomenon was commented upon endlessly during the campaign (i.e. "The Stealth Candidate").
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't surprise me since I doubt that 75% of those that VOTED for TS knew anything about him other than he wasn't a Republican. "Stealthiness" was the crux of his entire electoral strategy - don't do or say anything that would prompt the voters to examine you or your record - and the Media will do the rest. I am still waiting for the headline where Strickland called Ohio a "backwards state" during the campaign because of restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research or his more recent sucking up to a terrorist front group - CAIR.
