CINCINNATI (TDB) -- Indiana Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Pence is a former radio talk show host whose congressional district abuts the Ohio state line and enters Cincinnati's western exurbs. He's the star of Episode IV of the National Republican Congressional Committee's "Rediscover Your Party" series, which this week is a paean to Rush Limbaugh. Pence argues that the Democrats are pushing for restoration of the Fairness Doctrine in order to flush Rush and other righties from the broadcast airwaves. Or to create a distraction.
It's an interesting argument. And it has been kicked around off and on for months. It heated up during the past two weeks over Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" comment that may inspire a House vote to censure the talk show host who has been fascinated with pill boxes containing pharmaceuticals. He has studiously avoided the kind containing enemy gun emplacements. The Democrats want to give a rat to the Republicans tat over the MoveOn.org Petraeus/Betray Us ad last month that led to House and Senate votes condemning the left-leaning organization. Pence and the NRCC oppose repealing the Fairness Doctrine -- not the kind of issue that is likely to lead to GOP majority in the House.
