COLUMBUS (TDB) -- Ohio has published some lightning safety tips for June 22-28, which the state has declared Lightning Safety Week. The advice: "Stay out of its path." Wow, couldn't state officials come up with something original, something like, "Don't piss off Zeus!" Who would have ever guessed that the best way to avoid lightning strikes is to avoid lightning? Apparently, the nanny state takes its advice-giving duties quite seriously:
"Lightning Discharge: Stay Out of Its Path - During a thunderstorm, each flash of cloud-to-ground lightning is a potential killer. The determining factor on whether a particular flash could be deadly depends on whether a person is in the path of the lightning discharge. In addition to the visible flash that travels through the air, the current associated with the lightning discharge travels along the ground."
