CINCINNATI (TDB) -- Police suspect he tried to kill his wife last night. Certainly messier than Karl Rove's divorce. So much for family values. John Michael Farren was general counsel and vice president of external affairs for Xerox Corp before he became a White House lawyer for George W. Bush. The father of two children -- ages 6 and 4 months -- also served in the Commerce Department as under secretary for international trade under Bush's father. The Stamford Advocate is reporting Farren's 43-year-old wife is lapsing in and out of consciousness at a hospital in Norwalk. Her lawyer says Bush Administration lawyer Farren beat her with a flashlight. The newspaper said Farren is on suicide watch and is being held on a $2 million bond. This link takes you to a list of White House staffers and their salaries in the Bush administration.
There is more abut Farren's background in the American Presidency Project's papers, including details about two years with the Republican National Committee in the early 1980s.
