Potty-Mouthed Pundit Ann Coulter: Frags John Edwards As ''Faggot'

CINCINNATi (TDB) -- This whizzed by on C-SPAN: It sounded like Ann Coulter closed her remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference by slurring Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot." Turns out the suckfish really did use that venomous word in public and aimed it at the former North Carolina senator, which means that she has lumber in her head, the spot where the vast majority of humans have brains.

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if the you use the word faggot -- so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards," Coulter said.

The crowd clapped with leering approval. Edwards has Coulter on his Web site, and watching her is like gazing into a coalpit.

[UPDATE: Edwards WEIGHED IN today with a statement saying that Coulter's comments were offensive because she used an anti-gay slur. H/T to Brewed Fresh Daily for passing the word about the candidate's reaction.]

There is an old saying: Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain. It applies to Ann Coulter, who is cursed with a gift for verbal gaudiness, ignorance, wickedness and a talent for selling corn to pigs. She has a dull mind and hair that is made from porcupine quills. Perhaps she was drunk, which would explain the lack of her temperance. There is no point claiming she might be crazy -- that would merely insult the ill.

Coulter could probably answer this question: Why is it that blondes rose to prominence in Nazi Germany? Answer: They were Hitler's dream girls.

The Edwards camp sent an e-mail to supporters signed by campaign manager David Bonior, the former Michigan congressman who asked for "Coulter Cash" against the bigoted conservative columnist. "This is just a taste of the filth that the right-wing machine is gearing up to throw at us. And now that it's begun, we have a choice: Do we sit back, or do we fight back? I say we fight, Help us raise $100,00 in 'Coulter Cash' this week to show every would-be Republican mouthpiece that their bigoted attacks will not intimidate this campaign. I just threw in 100 bucks. Will you join me."

For some reason, the newspapers DID NOT REPORT Coulter's foul mouth and use of a venomous word. Newspapers that carry her column should cancel immediately. Editors who don't are fools for consorting with a bigot.

  1. That really is just nuts of her. Why do you think no MSM really covered it though?

  2. Hi Jill --

It is worse than nuts. It is despicable to use a word like that in front of a major American political gathering. Coulter is famously vacuous and has turned herself into a female version of Michael Richards. And it is simply stunning that nobody in the audience threw a tomato at her in objection. Apparently, the people in the crowd were deaf or too ignorant to know an offensive word when it is uttered before them.

As for the MSM, I'm at a loss and cannot explain the failure to report about this. Perhaps they are in shock. Perhaps they are out of it. Perhaps they are slow. But the newspaper industry needs to banish Coulter immediately as a columnist. She is to journalism what swampwater is to champagne.

  3. What is wrong with what she said?

Why is it OK for liberals, to freely speak as they please?

Why do you guys cry foul when anyone speaks ill about fags?

I see no calls for HBO to remove Bill Maher over his Cheney remarks. No calls for the reporter that called our troops mercenaries?

This is what makes liberals so disgusting!

  4. Hi King --

Here's the deal with me on the use of the "faggot" word. She was not trying to question or disagree with a policy, a position, a contention, a political stand, an intelluctual underpinning or anything else involving the John Edwards campaign. She used a pejorative. I just don't see how the use of such lanquage qualifies as rational, instructional political discourse -- no matter who says it. When somebody uses slurs against an opponent, they show they are intelluctually bankrupt. All we know about her view on Edwards -- he's a faggot. What about his health care plan? Good or bad? King, what she did was ad hominem -- she appealed to prejudices rather than to reason, she attacked her opponent rather than any issue. I really believe that that conservatism and social conservatism are important and serious political philosophies, and they should be treated and represented as such. Could you imagine Jefferson debating Adams over federalism and calling him a faggot because they held different positions on a political issue?

  5. Andrew Sullivan is covering the conference for the Atlantic Magazine. On his blog the other day, he described the reaction to Coulter's "faggot" remark (which was the last joke of her routine and obviously the planned money shot). According to Sullivan, who by the way is openly gay and conservative, the crowd was made up of mostly young activists who were cheering after she uttered the slur. Sullivan said that while all the Republican presidential candidates were met w/ varying levels of polite enthusiasm, it was Coulter who was greeted as a rock star. He said that it was grim to see so many young people respond in this way. He thinks the future of the conservative movement is this type of crypto-fascism, and he is very disheartened by it.

The description of young, pumped up "activists" cheering a speaker who calls a political opponent a "faggot" sounds like something from the Beer Hall Putsch. The underlying threat of barely repressed violence is disturbing.

Last year at the same conference, Coulter mocked Muslims as "ragheads". Nevertheless, she was invited back again as keynote speaker. Perhaps we can look forward to Coulter's appearance next year when she will use the "n" word to describe Barack Obama or some other designated "unworthy".
