3 Ohio Dems Accept No Tobacco Money: GOP's John Boehner Took $56,500

CINCINNATI (TDB) -- Ohio's congressional Republicans have been packing in the cash from tobacco interests over the past decade. And the latest quarterly report from Tobacco Free Kids shows House Minority Leader John Boehner is the tobacco lobby's matchless friend. The Butler County rep took the most, $56,500, followed by OH-01 Republican Steve Chabot of Cincinnati, $24,500. Four Democrats haven't taken a cent -- Marcy Kaptur, OH-09; Dennis Kucinich, OH-10; Tim Ryan, OH-16. Sadly, first term Dem Zack Space, OH-18, turned up on the quarterly report for accepting $1,000.

Republican U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, a former governor and Cleveland mayor, is down for $7,000, the new report shows.

  2. I don't know that "sadly" is the right adverb for Zack Space. More like, "predictably." Pro-polluter, anti-conservation, pro-big oil, pro-war, and now pro-tobacco, it's hard to understand why Space calls himself a Democrat.
