Calling All Cars: Cleveland Police Chief's $24,000 Carpet

CLEVELAND (TDB) -- The item below -- no other details available -- appears on the agenda of the Cleveland City Council finance committee:

  1. Wow! How big an area is getting carpeting? A year ago we replaced a hallway and stairwell carpeting and it was well under a thousand for what I consider good carpet.

  2. This is the kind of thing that "news providers" seize on without knowing any information.

    That seems a lot of money, doesn't it?

    Well, how large is the area?

    What kind of carpet fiber was spec'd? (some kinds wear better and cost more) And there is a big difference between good quality commercial grade CFN carpet and normal residential carpet, both in contruction and intended traffic wear.

    How often do they expect to replace the carpet?

    Etc....

    As someone who is in that particular business, this is not a lot of money to spend on a public area.

    I routinely bid projects where just the carpet portion runs to $100's K.

    Get some more facts, then fire away.
